Inner Domain - Teacher Training

Inner Domain 5 Element 200/500 hour Yoga Alliance registered Yoga Teacher Trainings embody the full spectrum of the fundamental teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda, from physical mastery to Self mastery, the ultmate goal of yoga.

Dear Yogis,

Welcome to the Inner Domain. I trust this will be a journey to your deepest potential which is personal, heart guided wisdom to help yourself, your family and the world.
My curriculum is based on the teachings that come to us from the source of Yoga and Ayurveda, the Vedas and the cosmology of Samkhya. This provides a large umbrella which sees all of the different branches and styles of yoga (Vedanta, Jnana, Raja, Bhakti, Tantra, Hatha, Kundalini, Karma) leading to the same destination. All of these will be explored within the context of the great scriptures, such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavadgita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and more. Yogis will learn how to access the inner source for true guidance to apply these methods creatively in personal practice and instruction, according to individual inclination.
All levels of development will be addressed as represented by the three bodies, Causal (soul), Astral (energy, Chakras, Nadis, Prana) and Physical (anatomy and physiology of body and mind) and also by the template of the five sheaths (koshas), Physical or food sheath, Annamaya Kosha, breath sheath, Pranamaya Kosha, mental/emotional sheath, Manomaya Kosha, wisdom sheath, Vijnanamaya Kosha and Bliss sheath, Anandamaya Kosha.
The framework of Patanjalis Ashtanga yoga will the basis for understanding how to optimize the health of the sheaths and bodies, for the greatest goal which is to rest in the nature of the True Self, which is a non-dual state of Buddhi (wisdom and bliss, Anand).

My yoga journey began with mediation (1976) as taught by Prem Pal Singh Rawat, an esteemed teacher from the Nepal area in India, whose honorary title is Maharaji (wopg.org). My intensive background in classical dance, evolved into dance therapy, based on the Ayurvedic model of balancing the chakras, doshas and elements through dance and yoga, utilizing movement awareness to release stuck patterns and awaken shakti for transformation, energy, health and joy. The great teacher who inspired this journey was Charmaine Lee, of www.synergydance.com.
I was introduced to Iyengar Yoga in the late 70's by teachers such as John Schumacher and Jane Fryer.
My greatest influence in the experience of vinyasa yoga came from a French student of Desikachar, who, in the early 80's taught me movement awareness with ujjayi breathing and the execution of bandhas (muscular actions at key sites in the body which have multi- dimensional benefit). Due to the understanding that arose from these powerful techniques, I began to fuse together, Iyengar yoga, ayurvedic dance, moving meditation, pranayama and bandhas, developing what later became known as Vinayasa yoga, as I discovered when I traveled to Los Angeles in the early 90's.

I continued to develop this creative, healing, fusion under the guidance of Lauren Peterson, Chuck Miller, Annie Carpenter, Mark Stephens, Micheline Berry, Erich Schiffman and later, Shiva rae.

IN 2008 I was asked by students in Holland to lead them in a training which inspired me to develop the 5 Element Inner Domain Yoga and Healing Arts Teacher Training Programs at both the basic 200 and advanced 300 levels.
Since then I have lead trainings in the USA and abroad, continually learning and growing in my teaching, personal practice and study.
Currently I am incorporating Ayurveda extensively in 300 hour Yoga Training. I also lead Ayurvedic Lifetsyle Counselor Certifications through the American Vedic Institute. For these teachings I thank my esteemed teachers Dr David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri) and Yogini Shambhavi.

Hello Neva-

I just wanted to write and express so much gratitude to you for leading the amazing experience I/ we had this past weekend.

I feel quite cracked open in a way that feels healthy, honest, and precious.   I'm excited and energized to keep traveling and walking towards ever-more of parts of what you helped teach me and expose me to.

As I know you know, this past chunk of time reuniting with Martin has been so beautiful, raw, and bittersweet. It was such a tremendous gift- a real miracle - to be able to have our togetherness in the both the union and separateness of the workshop experience.  Thank you so so much for all your wisdom, peace, containment and guidance.

My cards were Open-Heartedness, Boldness, and Acceptance, and I'm trying to meditate on all these things. I've had an amazing set of moments of syncroncity seeing hearts everywhere.....

Much love Neva- thank you again....

Thank you Lovely Neva & all you beautiful Shakti Goddesses!

I think this sounds like the name of an awesome dance troupe, "Neva and the Shakti Goddesses".  Count me in :-0!!

Dear neva

I wanted to express my joy and gratitude for being with you all on Friday & Saturday and for your absolute willingness to dive deep into the soul of bellydance with me.  What a rare gift it was to have such an amazing circle of dancers who could step right into the ancient healing art of bellydance with grace, ease and acceptance.  You were all radiant!!

Thank you Neva for the incredible dancing retreat this weekend...I feel renewed and ready for Autumn !!!

It was wonderful  to connect, dance and learn as each of us opened our hearts and minds to healing.

With gratitude for your beautiful and wise guidance,

Love and light......Carol

Thank you so much for EVERYTHING. Every word, every smile, every drop of the divine you let fall from your mouth and body...thank you. This training was better than I hoped for.

Can you tell me the name of the kali song we listened to and who it was by?

She is SHOWING UP, strong.

Hi Neva!

I'm really grateful you're a figure in my life!

You've shared a lot of valuable information and I wasn't taking notes a lot of the time because it'd be impossible to get it all down. I know I heard it all though :-P so it's in there somewhere.

I'm sure youve energetically picked up on each one of our life-stories so far, and so u know that my family (first chakra) was probably on the skeptical et cetera side. I'm chanting the yoga sutras and other things now and NOT underestimating the use of mantras (though I will rationalize and say its a useful tool for crowding out the minds modifications... And remain un-opinionated about the idea that Sanskrit is.... I can't even grasp that concept yet...magic)

I have the first yoga sutras in my memory but get choppy with pronunciation on the they'd because I don't understand the dots under letters. I'd like to hear the woman reciting them again. How can I find that? ....

It's been very interesting to see all the people who were your students. They all in one way or another represented a reason I took the class and affirmed something within me.

Gregory E. Woods  (Flaco) wrote for Neva 5 Element 200 Hour Summer Intensive.

"The Neva

“There comes a pivotal moment in the lives of healers when a choice presents itself that will challenge and deepen their craft. Relationship with The Master Teacher of one's craft is necessary if one's life is to be in league with the high calling of healing one's soul. All healers’ work begins within them, and learns to extend outward as strong beams of light for anyone who needs that particular light. The origin and destination of healing energy is indiscernible to untrained eyes. The containers for healing energies are temporary, and the use of healing energies is a free dance, but the discipline of the healer needs instruction. This is where the relationship with the Neva comes into prayer, into focus, into the personal world of the one healer who will learn to shift and change their world into an effective force of Nature!” – Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories (Dawn Wolf)"

Being in your presence Neva, immediately warms my heart: I can trust myself, express myself. I learned not to judge.
The devotion to a higher power is to be felt. Your beautiful imagery helps me to forget about my small self, laugh when "difficult" poses don't yet work for me. I loved the exhausted feeling and then let go everything in dance. I have become much more steady when I encounter my students, people not so "easy" to cope with in my daily life. The yoga-experience has become the life experience. My interest in ayurvedic therapy, JSJ is born. I loved the first meeting with Sanskrittan, the chanting. And then of course there is Maharaji in my daily life, so the now is more often the now! Thank you so much Neva!

Dear lovely Neva!

I'm in Boston now for my little sister's upcoming wedding. Then I will
be visiting San Fransisco for a few days before flying off to Egypt
for a month to shoot this film about US-Egypt relations. (In case you
are interested, please see the film concept note attached).

Thank you always for being such a positive influence in my life. There
are so many things you have brought up in practice over the years that
have stuck with me and actually have assisted me getting through
difficult periods.

Among the benefits of continuous practice and the wonderful physical,
emotional and spiritual benefits to practice over the years, there are
two specific things that for some reason have remained very vivid in
my mind and most useful in my ever day life:

Once, during a class way back in 2005 at Hot Yoga, I think, you had us
in half moon, and you said "how would you be if you were not afraid?"
I don't know why it struck me so much, but that has always been one of
my strongest posses now. Each time I do that pose in any class, I
remind myself of that line, and it gives me such physical and inner
strength.

Another time more recently, you described that one of the main reasons
there is so much pain and conflict in the world today is because we
are all disconnected from the earth and from one another. But that
through mediation and yoga, we could find the inner connectivity to
find better sync with each other. Well, I'm not sure if that's how it
went or not, but that's the main idea I took away. I have spent so
much of my academic and professional career examining international
conflict resolution options, and am often so discouraged at the
bleakness of the whole thing. But it really helps my soul, at least,
when I stop and ponder ideas such as yours and other yogis'. I feel so
much more balanced and grounded.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know again how much your dedication
and commitment as our teacher has meant to me. I will miss you very
much while I am away and will look forward to coming in for class when
I get back in November.

All the best to you dear Neva!

Lillie :-)

Dear Neva,

Good day! I have wanted to sit down and write you an e-mail so many times. We are booked again with another yoga retreat and this one almost filled all of Luna Lodge so we are a little busy at the moment. But, what I wanted to tell you is that I enjoyed doing yoga with you so much and it was a delight to watch you and your movements and smiles and funny faces with all of the different students. I have the opportunity to do yoga with a lot of different teachers, all types come to Luna Lodge. But, I really enjoyed all of the classes that I was able to do with you. You also have an amazing way of getting people into poses that maybe they had never been in before.  I hope that I have the opportunity to study with you some other time. I would love to go to a teacher training with you some where but, I do not know if that is going to happen any time soon. I would love to have you back here at Luna Lodge anytime. If you and Sarah are interested in coming back please just let us know.

Please tell the other students that I know that we send a big hello to all of them and some nice sunshine and hugs! And a big hug and kiss to you too.

Neva...

I simply want to say THANK YOU!

it occurred to me last evening during your yoga class that i could have trained with anyone, yet, somehow I was led to you.  I'm sure many other instructors could have taught me about the asanas and technique, but I'm not sure they could have (or would have) taught about the more subtle and spiritual side of yoga.  It really is about the journey...it's been challenging at times, yet, very sweet!  I'm honored to have such a wise teacher who has helped me lay a strong foundation for my path.  Again, I thank you.

namaste,

Dave

The Yoga Nidra workshop with Neva was lovely and just what I needed, after a long, particularly intense work-week.  Neva's approach was knowledgeable and compassionate. She guided us through deep rest and mediation that soothed my soul. I walked in tired. Friends (who also took the workshop) noticed I was walking out with a lightness and easy glow in my eyes. Yoga Nidra is deep rest. And Neva is a masterful and deeply compassionate teacher who guided us all safely on this healing journey!

Love and light to you,

Carolyn

And lastly, because of you as a teacher.  Every time I am with you I deepen.  When I gave thought over this past year of who I wanted to eventually do my 500 hour with, it became clear that there isn’t anyone else in this area (and I can only speak to this area!) that has the unique combination of dedication, passion, impeccable asana teaching, deep spiritual understanding, an unwavering devotion to a higher power, and the ability to communicate it all in a way that I feel in my heart, that you have.  So here I am.

The teacher training as been a real joy in my life – a diving deeper, connecting, letting go.  Finding my authentic voice.  You have really made each of the chakras come alive for me, and with the intertwining and balance, a truer sense of self, and now I hope to share that with as many others as possible.  And as I have told you several times, I always felt so nurtured after one of our weekends.  You are a wonderful teacher.  Thank you.
