The Power of Fulfillment through Seeking

The Moon is exalted in Taurus today. He is currently transiting the star constellation or nakshatra, Mrgasira, which has two significant symbols.

The first is the deer’s head corresponding to the myth of the golden deer we find throughout mythic lore and specifically in the epic tale of Lord Rama’s rescue of his wife Sita from the evil King Raven in the Ramayana. In this story, Sita was left in a safe enclave, surrounded by a fence that Raven could not enter. Instead, a beautiful golden deer came and persuaded Sita to leave her safe enclosure to follow him, which she did, leading to her capture and the many battles that ensued in pursuit of her recovery. Some compare Sita to the heart, Lord Ram to Justice and King Raven to the ego. The heart was deceived to follow the ego, through subtle enticement, to leave the good and the true, leaving justice to finally resolve the matter through effort, grace and right action.

The deer is charming ad loves nectar. The deer cannot be domesticated, but will leap from a enclosure stacked with hay to access the tender shoots on the other side of the fence. One of the deities associated with the nakshatra who helps to reveal its message, is Lord Soma, the god of immortality, the illusive fountain of youth, the Holy Grail. What lures us to leave our own conscience? What pursuit takes us, not toward the true and sacred, but away. I discern the message is that what we seek is within us and not outside. The journey within is eternal and this is the immortality we seek.

Another deity associated with this nakshatra is Parvati, the goddess of creation/invention. The symbol is Lord Ganeshe, the elephant headed. Parvati wanted a son and created him out of her own will as her husband Lord Shiva wanted no children. When Shiva encountered the boy guarding his mother’s bath chamber, he beheaded him. Parvati was bereft with grief and Shiva promised to find the head of the first animal in the forest and give the boy a new head. This head was that of an elephant. Because of this Ganeshe is known as the keeper of all knowledge, the lord of the nakshatras, the protector of spiritual devotees and the remover of obstacles.

This is a nakshatra of new beginnings, innovation, the innocence of a young child and the wisdom of an elder. It is a creative nakshatra that launches things, inspires others to new paths and then moves on.

What are you seeking today? Remember, Taurus is ruled by Venus and is all about bringing heaven to earth. What creative endeavor are you ready to launch? And is your effort best directed outwardly or inward?

 Many blessings on your journey!

 Namaste,

neva
